What self respecting person with a basic medical science degree, or anyone with minuscule logic, reason, human decency enrol in a psychiatry training program in Australia today?

To abandon one’s critical thinking, suspend disbelief and ‘enter into a world of pure imagination’ - nothing but quackery and Willy Wonkering - surely is only the preserve of those with a prurient interest in others misery, an all consuming obsession for money, power and self importance.

I'm glad you wrote that article. I had ECT myself 25 years ago. I was hospitalized with "treatment resistant" severe depression when it was recommended I try their "new, improved" version of this classic psychiatric standby. If I was more lucid I would have done some research and sought a second opinion, but when you are desperate you are impressionable and suggestible. In that state if they told you cutting off your left leg with a rusty hacksaw and no anesthetic would miraculously restore you to mental health you'd believe them.

After a number of rounds of ECT it became apparent to me the treatments were causing me considerable long term memory loss. It takes a while to realize just how bad the memory loss is because you're focused on the surreality of the present tense not languidly reaching back into your memories of the good old days.

I complained about the memory loss to my psychiatrist and ECT enthusiast and he reassured me the memories would come back. I didn't believe him and stopped the treatments.

Ultimately I realized I had lost about 10 years worth of long term memories. It's not a complete blank slate: I remember some images, vignettes, short stretches of time. But most of it's gone.

About two or three weeks after the last treatment I also developed temporal lobe epilepsy. It was diagnosed and treated with tegretol. Before ECT I had never experienced epilepsy and it doesn't run in my family. It's pretty clear to me what the culprit is. After a few years the epilepsy got better but the memory never did. I guess neuroplasticity is only capable of so much.

Of course my "treatment team" denied any of this was possible. Not only denied it I was dismissed and sneered at. Although one person insisted my memories still existed "somewhere." Was she suggesting they were lurking in a pristine state in the akashic records? Can't wait.

In general Psychiatry's incapacity for self-reflection, honesty, transparency, independent critical thinking and accountability evokes the psychology of someone who is extremely emotionally immature or indeed suffers from a severe personality disorder.

Although there is an enormous amount of bullshit and misinformation on the internet nevertheless a lot of vital knowledge and expertise has been democratized, decentralized and made available. How many lives have been saved because people now know about responsible psychotropic drug deprescribing and what severe protracted withdrawal looks like? Most psychiatrists haven't got a clue.

My hope is that the juvenile, pseudoscientific edifice of Psychiatry Inc gets chipped away at over time with the help of the internet and critical patient advocacy groups. At this point it is an authoritarian, narcissistically abusive cult and an embarrassment to the medical profession.

Dr McLaren thank you for bringing this again to the public eye! Thank you for being a great soul, a wonderful human being even after being surrounded by "gangs" aka psychiatrist that have destroy millions of lives, including children, seniors and full families, their purposes are only economy and social power! Sadly medical estasblishment have destroyed themselves, to the eyes of any person with logical and integrity...psychiatrist and many medical practitioners have been in the best scenario brainwashed for their own benefits and have become "a kind of elite" that instead of being humble think they are superior over the rest of the population.. yet they are only slaves of their masters! That is why the Cov.. Scam was possible... Families, general public needs to wake up, stop using their services and the few rational medical practitioners left wake up, they are coming for them too as happened with Covid 💉they will be deleted by AI sooner than they think! Thank you again Dr McLaren 👏🏻💌🌹🏆🙂
