The rationale for puberty blockers was to "'give the minor time to think and reconsider whether transsexualism is the way to go." About 98% of young people who start puberty blockers graduate to cross-sex hormones, so it seems they are seeing the blockers as the first and probably most important step on the path to changing sex. Once they're on that path, it would take a very strong character to turn back. That was definitely not the intention. Patrick Parkinson's call for a national body to approve these drugs is well overdue.
This is another tragic case of modern medicine profiting from social dis-function and vulnerable patients. It needs to be stopped urgently. Civil lawsuits are too soft. These doctors and those aiding them need to be criminally prosecuted.
At first this may appear as modern medicine running off the rails however it fits in with the mindset of treating symptoms and not causes and ignoring adverse events.
Something drastic needs to be done to get modern doctors to respect the doctrines of: 'first do no harm' and 'informed consent' (although not possible for minors).
There is no informed consent in this field, the very notion is laughable.
Modern psychiatry is not " off the rails," but only because it was never on them. The "rails" are theoretical, a theory of mind and a theory of personality, neither of which they have, and the "wagon" to run on the rails is made of a model of mental disorder and a model of personality disorder, neither of which they have. Modern psychiatry is therefore a pseudoscience, and children are being encouraged to embark on an irreversible course with no science, only ideology. The bad news is that this is not the last "morbid symptom" of intellectual breakdown that will appear, there will certainly be more.
