🌹💌🙂🙃🔥🔥🔥Please see my repost Dr McLaren, thank you 🤗 a great post, the rationality and evidence of your conclusions do not leave space to challenge your findings!
Thank you Dr McLaren for your heroic lifelong battle against corruption, greed and laziness to better the plight of the most vulnerable of our fellow human beings. The state of locked wards remains in a ghastly cruel state manned by mostly inhumane and unfeeling non-critical thinkers. The simplest case of providing reassurance or making a young patient feel safe is a further PRN med. Talking to or humanising ‘unheard of’. The prolific use of clozapine in young people (20s) in public MHS hospital of WA is terrifying. I wish your work was compulsory reading for all medical students and medical officers.
As of July 31st 2024, the number of deaths linked to the antipsychotic clozapine reported to Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has reached 1,549. This is a 257% increase since 2011, when there had been 433 deaths. Despite warnings from the TGA about clozapine’s side effects, which include arrythmias, myocarditis, and death from gastrointestinal disorders such as bowel obstruction due to severe constipation, it is clear that the rate of prescription of this drug, especially for younger people, is increasing rapidly. When it was introduced, some 30yrs ago, it was reserved for intractable, long-term cases. It is now being prescribed almost as routine for people who show early signs of “treatment resistance.”
I still baulk at my colleague, Dr Singh (psych reg) whose witness nochalance to his heavy-handed use of this drug at the direction of his uncaring consultant haunts me to this day. I hate corruption. I hate psychiatrists who are not you alone, Dr McLaren. Thank you for training me to be brave, courageous and philosophical in an era of money-hungry morons.
